Got up at 5:30 this morning and was at park and running by 6. Put in 6 miles and it felt pretty good. Better than the long run this weekend. I'm not sure what my run will look like tomorrow since most of the day will be spent flying to Traverse City, Michigan for a few days. Where? You got me. Sunny days are ahead, though. I am scheduled to spend the next 2 work weeks in sunny Santa Monica. Can't complain too much about that.
So I received a reply from one of the guys living in Japan about helping me get to a race the weekend/week I will be there. Here is his email:
Sorry to tell you that you picked a bad time to come to Tokyo, it's the typhoon season, and there are hardly any races in all of Japan, only in the northern parts, and they are probably deadlined already. Best I can suggest is to hook up with some of our members and go for a training run. I will be in Germany (escaping from the weather), but there are some of us who usually brave the elements! Cheers, Juergen
Uhhhhhhhh......
Typhon season? Brave the elements? You still want to go, Topher? Oh well. So no race for me while in Japan. It was a long shot, I guess, but my back up plan was to run one of the courses that Runners World highlights in the picture below.
Regardless, it should be exciting. I want to thank Juergen Wittstock for his quick reply to my e-mail. Thanks Juergen. Enjoy Germany.
Switching gears. Have you guys checked out Run Your City yet? A fellow blogger, Ryan, has created kind of a blog portal for runners. He lists blog's by city so that you can find other local bloggers. Also, he is starting a runners book club. The first book chosen is Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner”, by Dean Karnazes. I haven't read it yet, but I plan to. Check out the book and then head over to Run Your City's message board to discuss.
Gotta go do my push-ups now. Week 1 Day 1, baby!
